DEVO 06.11.24

DEVO. 06.11.24

“A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another.” (John 13:34)

- Today in VBS, our theme verse was John 13:34.

- Jesus gives us a command to “love one another”.

- This is not a suggestion it’s a command.

- The key to understanding this kind of Love is to know that the word for “Love” is the Greek word “agape.”

- Agape is not based on your emotions.

- Agape is not selfish or self-seeking.

- It’s laying down your own needs for the benefit of others.

- Jesus takes it to the extreme and makes it very clear, when he says, “As I have loved you, that you also love one another.”

- 1 John 4:17 says, “Love has been perfected among us in this: that we may have boldness in the day of judgment; because as He is, so are we in this world.”

- “As he is, so are we.”

- Jesus’ love was so great that He laid down His life!

- John 3:16 says, “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son.”

- Jesus was given by the Father, but Jesus still had to willingly surrender His life!

- Out of obedience to the Father’s will, Jesus gave His life!

- John 3:17 says, “For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.”

- Jesus gave His life for the world.

- Those who rejected Him.

- Those who hated Him.

- Those who mocked Him.

- Jesus still died for them out of love for them.

- That is the kind of love we are to have.

- That is impossible to have in your own human nature but it can only be accomplished by the Spirit of God living inside of you!

- Who in your life is hard to love?

- Jesus commands you to love them.

- Jesus says that you must be willing to lay down your life for them, so that they can come to know Him.

- Today, ask God to give you that kind of love!

- It’s not a natural love but a supernatural love that comes from the Father!

- Love just like you’ve been loved!

- Have a great Tuesday!
