DEVO. 01.07.25

“Jesus, full of the Holy Spirit, left the Jordan and was led by the Spirit into the wilderness.” (Luke‬ ‭4:1‬ ‭NIV‬‬)

- Today is our third day of our church fast. Some have fasted longer and some less but today I want to focus on why Jesus fasted. What was the purpose?

- In Luke 4:1 we find that Jesus, who was full of the Spirit, was led into the wilderness.

- The Wilderness?

- A place of testing!

- A place of solitude and loneliness.

- Subject to the extreme elements of heat during the day and cold at night.

- And the Spirit of God led Him there?!

- So that can only mean one thing. There is a purpose in your wilderness.

- Usually we run from the wilderness but Jesus runs to it.

- Jesus embraced it.

- It says that, “for forty days he was tempted by the devil, to break His fast, His response was, He ate nothing during those days.”

- That’s Extreme!

- Jesus took on extreme conditions so that He could offer you extreme love!

- He embraced emptiness so that you could receive of His fullness!

- When He was tempted by the devil, He quoted Deuteronomy 8:3 which says, “Man does not live by bread alone, but man lives by every word that comes from the mouth of the Lord”

- His source of fuel was the Word of God.

- His greatest weapon against the enemy was the Word of God.

- He encountered extreme temptation in order to offer you the power to overcome any temptation that comes your way.

- He went into the wilderness full of the Spirit but He left in the Power of the Spirit.

- Verse 14 says, “Jesus returned to Galilee in the power of the Spirit”!

- The purpose was the power!

- The wilderness presented Him with the opportunity to defeat the enemy.

- To take his best shot and show him that no weapon that was formed against Him could prevail.

- He did it to reveal to you the secrets of overcoming the enemy!

- He showed you that the Word of God is the best weapon of God.

- He revealed that you can be triumphant!

- You can succeed.

- You don’t have to live subject to everything the enemy throws at you.

- You are an overcomer because He overcame!

- Today, if you find yourself in a wilderness, don’t run from the difficulty, embrace it!

- Use His Word to overcome every attack.

- Romans 8:37 says that, you “are more than conquerors and gain an overwhelming victory through Him who loved us [so much that He died for us].”

- Overwhelming victory is waiting for you today!

- Step into it!

- Have a great Tuesday!
